The summer pavilion for film screenings Garage-Screen is an international competition for young architects, held annually by the Garage Museum of Contemporary Art. Our concept was selected among all applications for implementation in 2022. The building exterior transmits light and basically is made of water. This shell is conceived as a wall of gabions, but instead of the usual stones the mesh contains water bottles. Penetrating through water and plastic, the light inside the pavilion is beautifully refracted.
Erecting the pavilion is part of a social experiment. The project suggests that visitors provide plastic bottles for the construction. The bottles can differ in shape and form; we dye the water so that bottles vary in color and visitors can see them better. Part of the bottles should be produced at a recycling factory, the water inside them should be clear. Thus, the facade of the pavilion remains a mystery almost until the end of its construction.
